The sun reflected across the water near the Deauville-La Touques racetrack, while elegant spectators gathered to enjoy the excitement of horse racing. Christian, an aristocrat with a talent for betting, often invited Albert to share these sophisticated summer afternoons.

Their visits to the racetrack were part of a tradition that had continued for years. After enjoying the races, the two friends would return to Christian's mansion in Honfleur, where Albert was captivated by the scents of the lush garden. Roses, coastal vegetation, and the freshness of the sea inspired him to create a unique perfume that captured the beauty of Honfleur.

Albert would bring this fragrance with him every summer when he returned to Deauville.

Christian became fascinated by the scent, but he knew Albert was famously discreet about the perfumes he created for his personal collection. Determined to obtain the coveted fragrance, Christian devised a playful challenge during one of their afternoons at the racetrack.

He encouraged Albert to bet on Grillemont, promising that if the horse won, Albert would reward him with his perfume.

Albert accepted.

The race unfolded with all the excitement they had anticipated, but Grillemont finished third. Christian lost the bet and, much to his disappointment, failed to win Albert's treasured fragrance.

Yet Albert's friendship proved more valuable than the wager. Upon returning to Paris, he created a special version of the perfume for Christian, incorporating the inspiration of the Honfleur garden together with cedarwood and musk.

He sent the fragrance to his friend with a label commemorating their unforgettable afternoon at the racetrack:
